Italian police goes after fake Italian food

The Italian police is going after fake Italian food: Food which sounds Italian, but has nothing to do with Italy.

The Carabinieri of the NAS department have controlled food all over the world and found the most interesting varieties like “Kapeleti” (instead of cappelletti) and “Mortadela” in Slovenia, “Parmezali” in Romenia or “Milaneza pasta” in Portugal or “Carpaccio formaggiò” in the Netherlands.

The result: 2 out of 3 Italian sounding food products had nothing to do with Italian products.

“The phenomenon is so common that they don’t even try to keep the original names of the ‘made in Italy’ specialties” , is the comment of Coldiretti, the organisation which represents Italian farmers and food producers.

Among the most cloned products is cheese like Parmigiano Reggiano, Grana Padano, Provolone or Gorgonzola. But also Prosciutto di San Daniele and Olive Oil.

We at ByItaly support authentic Italian production. No fakes allowed.
