Firriato wine family

Take two passionate Italians from Sicily, add the Sicilian sun, the lava soil and some wonderfull vines, then add years and years of hard work of a dedicated Sicilian family and you will get one one of the best Italian wines.

This is the story of the Firriato family.

Firriato wines have won awards all over the world and made it to the top 100 list of the Wine spectator. They reach from Ribeca, a dark 100% Perricone to Muciara  grown on the warm island of Favignana to the famous desert wine Ecrù Passito.

Firriato Wine harvestThe world of high-quality wine, at least in Sicily, was just beginning and Salvatore Di Gaetano, a young businessman devoted to his land, could already glimpse the enormous potential offered by Sicily as a wine-making region: A miniature continent, capable of encompassing absolutely everything: from the high mountains to the sea, from compact clay soils to those emerged from the sea, not to mention the lava sands of Etna.

Vinzia Novara Di Gaetano Firriato wine

Together with his wife, Vinzia Novara, Salvatore Di Gaetano they shared their vision right from the start: valorising the Sicilian land and making high quality Sicilian wine.

We have had the privilege to get to know Vinzia Novara. It’s hard to find somebody speaking more passionately about Sicily and about wine than this mediterranean woman with her black hair and black hypnotizing eyes. And somebody very proud to be a Sicilian woman: “If you give a task to a Sicilian woman, she will bring it to the end” are her words. And we believe her.

Of course the second generation is already working for the family business. Wine lovers can be assured: The tradition is carried on.
