Cannaiola – the festa of the very, very young Italian wine
Do you know “cannaiola” ? It is the red wine 24 hours after harvesting the grapes. When it is still sweet and only starts fermenting.
And of course it is a reason to celebrate, to stay together and eat some nice chestnuts with the cannaiola. The chestnuts are prepared in a rotating bin on top of the fire (s.picture).
With the cannaiola festa these days the little village of Pretola has become the main attraction in the area of Perugia in Umbria. It is one of the last “sagra” – the festas in the different villages of Italy that offer their local specialities. But now even in Italy the days and nights aregetting colder. And we all wait for next year’s sagra season.
