“Acqua Alta” at this year’s carneval in Venice !

This year’s carneval in Venice might be very special. You might have to wear rain boots under your carneval costumes and masks.
The reason ? Weather experts expect high water due to the warm wind scirocco during the weekend of carneval.
But don’t worry. Ventians are used to the high water. Hotels usually have rainboots. And “acqua alta” (high water) – when there is water on the streets – usually lasts only a few hours. Once water goes down again, things go back to normality
Acqua alta” (high water) is a phenomenon which generally takes place in Venice in November and December, when a combination of astronomical tide, strong south wind (scirocco) and seiche can cause a larger inflow of water into the Venetian Lagoon.
Carneval in Venice with high water is definetly a story to tell.
