From Gubbio (Umbria) to Jessup (Pennsylvania): “Corsa dei Ceri” – Italian tradition alive

The “Corsa dei Ceri” has moved to America. The “Corsa dei Ceri” of Gubbio in Umbria is one of the most emotional (and less touristic) traditional festivals in Italy. And we have been thrilled, when we heard about its US edition in Jessup, Pennsylvania.

Immigrants from this Umbrian region have brought the race which celebrates Saint Ubaldo to the US more than 100 years ago ! Three teams dressed in yellow, blue and black carry the immense wooden pedestals with the three saints (Saint Ubaldo, Saint George and Saint Anthony) and actually run with them !

There is even The Saint Ubaldo Society in Jessup which promotes the very old traditions surrounding Saint Ubaldo of Gubbio, Italy and “La Festa dei Ceri”.

As you might know, ByItaly is also based in Umbria and videos like this make us very proud…
